Businesses & Organisations Wanted: Join Us for the Tarka Trail & Estuary Clean-Up !
We're gearing up for our annual Tarka Trail & Estuary Clean-Up, and we're inviting local businesses and organisations to join us for a one-day effort to tidy up one of north Devon's best-loved public spaces (you choose the part you’d like to clean up).
Last year, 130+ volunteers from businesses and organisations across northern Devon collected 76 bags of waste (435kg!) in a single day. Data that fed straight into national lobbying efforts with Surfers Against Sewage and the Marine Conservation Society. This year, we want to go further.
It's a great fit for CSR days, team building, or company pledges — any size team, any section of the trail, full kit and support provided by us. A brilliant way to strengthen your team, live out your values, and join a global clean-up movement.
Ready to get involved? We'll make it easy, whether you're new or returning. Ask about our flexible sponsorship package, covering this event, our January Day of Action, and community cleans all year.

Chivenor to Ashford Tarka Trail Clean Up
A public clean (everyone welcome!) as part of the annual Tarka Trail & Estuary Clean Up for World Cleanup Day.
Join North Devon Coast National Landscape and help to clean this stretch of the much loved Trail from Chivenor to Ashford.

Community cleans encourage everyone to get outside into nature, enjoy what it has to offer and then give back at the same time.
Plastic pollution is still a huge and growing issue for our local environment, wildlife and us which isn’t going away any time soon. We believe that cleaning up and physically connecting people with the issue of plastic pollution is one of the ways to build knowledge, open up conversations and offer a way to tackle this global issue on a local scale.

We may also run a MCS (Marine Conservation Society) Survey, depending on the amount of volunteers/conditions. Please make yourself known if you are able to help with these surveys.

A funny film about a serious issue, restore nature or produce food? Featuring Derek Banbury, a dairy farmer who is horrified at the “devastation” of his neighbour’s farm. Over the hedge lives another Derek - dubbed the “maverick rewilder” by the media - Derek Gow is an ex-sheep farmer hellbent on turning his land into an oasis for nature. The pair argue over everything from food production and hedges to beavers and escaping wild boar. Made by BAFTA award winning director James Dawson, it’s blunt, funny and heartwarming in equal measure.
Climate Conversations, Barnstaple
Join us for a climate conversation training that actually connects. We'll show you how to have meaningful conversations about climate change with your community.
Conversations bridge divides, reduce polarisation, and remind us of shared values — which is why they matter for building support for climate action.
Whether you're worried about sounding preachy or feel you're not "expert" enough, we'll equip you with skills for positive, effective conversations and how to avoid common pitfalls. You'll practise active listening, rapport building, and develop a short climate story of your own.
This informal, 3-hour session suits anyone who works within communities, or simply wants more confidence talking climate with family, friends, and colleagues.
The training is based on the Let's Talk Climate programme, developed by Larger Us. Light refreshments provided.
Tickets: £3 (library members) / £5 (non-members). A limited number of free tickets are available for anyone who'd find the cost a barrier — we want this accessible to everyone.

🦀 CITIZEN SCIENCE & LEARN ABOUT THE BEACH ENVIRONMENT: Coastwise volunteers will be on hand to help us deepen our understanding of the beach environment and support citizen science efforts relating to wildlife and beach cleans. We feed our data into national campaigns as much as possible (Surfers Against Sewage Million Mile clean and the Marine Conservation Society).

Plough Earth Film Festival
A powerful evening of thought-provoking films, conversation, and connection as we explore some of the most urgent and hopeful environmental stories of our time. Through a carefully curated programme of documentaries and short films, the event shines a light on regenerative farming, climate change, rewilding, biodiversity, and conservation, celebrating the people and projects working to restore and protect the natural world.
The evening is split into two halves, beginning with a carefully curated selection of inspiring short films exploring regenerative farming, biodiversity, conservation, and climate action. After the interval, there will be an early screening of Derek vs Derek, a compelling new documentary examining the future of farming through two contrasting perspectives. Following the film, stay for a live Q&A with Derek Gow and Derek & Linda Banbury with the opportunity to continue the conversation.
From innovative approaches to sustainable agriculture to uplifting stories of ecological recovery, the films invite audiences to rethink our relationship with nature and consider how positive change can happen at both local and global levels.
More than just a film screening, this is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and engage in meaningful discussion with fellow audience members, environmental advocates, growers, and changemakers. Throughout the evening there will be space for conversation, shared ideas, and community dialogue inspired by the themes explored on screen.

Please come dressed for an outdoor event with sensible footwear, the Education Barn is a repurposed agricultural barn with no heating.
Please park in the National Trust car park. Car parking fee apply if you aren't a NT member.
Home Farm is a short walk down the road from the car park. DO NOT go to the Arlington Court reception. A member of Taw and Torridge River Champions will be on hand in the car park to meet and great people.
There is only ONE basic toilet at the Eduction Barn. Other toilets can be found a 10 minute walk away by the cafe.

Instead of our usual meeting place of The Pocket, Bideford, we’ll be using the warmer evenings to explore the stunning biodiversity hotspots on our doorstep. Climb It! is coming to Ford Woods, Bideford for September, bringing together young people who have an interest in nature and climate, to meet new people and share ideas.
We’ll walk around this woodland site on the edge of Bideford guided by ecologist and bat expert Rob. Expect discussion of current conservation and future hopes for the sites.

Get some fresh air, feel good and do good! Come down and join the Plastic Free Woolacombe team, North Devon National Trust and North Devon Silent Disco for a silent disco boogie down on Woolacombe beach.
🪩 SILENT DISCO: North Devon Silent Disco will be on hand providing the tunes so you can groove whilst removing the rubbish!
🧤 EQUIPMENT PROVIDED: Gloves, litter pickers and bags. However, if you have your own, please bring it with you.
ℹ️ CITIZEN SCIENCE AND LEARNING: We feed our data into national campaigns such as Surfers Against Sewage ‘Million Mile Clean’ as much as possible.

Join your community, John Fowler Holidays and Holly the Ranger in giving our beautiful bay a good clean.
Meet at the main beach entrance (RUDA end).
FREE parking for beach cleaners (please record your number plate on the sign in sheet).
Equipment provided (or bring your own if you have it).
We may also run a MCS (Marine Conservation Society) Survey, depending on the amount of volunteers/conditions. Please make yourself known if you are able to help with these surveys.
Please note: if you are planning to bring dogs, Croyde beach has a no-dogs policy from 30th April to 1st October.

Croyde Ocean Triathlon
Based at the beautiful, award-winning Putsborough Sands and sold out again last year, Croyde Ocean Triathlon takes in some of the South West’s most stunning scenery.
This unique ‘stunning and savage’ Triathlon is an Earth Action North Devon event (and a sustainable event, of course), raising vital funds for our charity. We’re offering unlimited fundraising entries for just £20, giving athletes the opportunity to turn their training into tangible environmental and community impact. Find out more here.

🍻 People Planet Pint™ – Braunton, 7th July
We’re hosting a local edition of People Planet Pint™ by Small99 at The Black Horse, 34 Church St, Braunton (7:30–9:30pm).
This is not a networking event. There will be no pitches, panels or presentations.
It’s an informal meetup for people across North Devon who are interested in climate, sustainability and nature, whether through their work, volunteering, business, or personal interest.
If you’re thinking about how climate change connects to your role, organisation or community, this is a welcoming space to explore that and meet others doing the same.
Addressing the climate crisis requires strong, connected local communities. This is a simple space to start those conversations – over a drink.

Climb It! Young People Meet-up
Climb It! – a monthly meet‑up for 18-30 year olds.
Instead of our usual meeting place of The Pocket, Bideford, we’ll be using the warmer evenings to explore the stunning biodiversity hotspots on our doorstep.
Climb It! is coming to Northam Burrows for July, bringing together young people who have an interest in nature and climate, to meet new people and share ideas. Come and enjoy estuary views and some bird watching. We will also talk about other habitats here that are managed by Torridge District Council.
🚐 No car? No problem! We will be providing a free minibus from Braunton Tesco, Barnstaple ASDA and Bideford Morrisons to and from the meet-up. Drop us an email to book a place: info@earthactionnorthdevon.org

The National Emergency Briefing is a landmark initiative bringing the latest climate and nature science out of Westminster and into communities across the UK. Last November, ten of the country's leading experts briefed over 1,200 politicians and public figures on what the climate and nature crisis means for our food, health, economy, and security. Now a compelling 45-minute documentary captures that evidence — and we're proud to be screening it across northern Devon.
This isn't a film designed to frighten or overwhelm. It's an opportunity for neighbours, local leaders, and MPs to sit together, look at the same evidence, and think about what comes next. And here in northern Devon, there's already plenty of reason for hope — local groups and organisations are doing brilliant work across wildlife, food, energy, and more. Screenings are a chance to get informed, get connected, and find your place in that picture.
All film screenings are free and open to everyone — whether you're already passionate about the natural world or simply want to understand what's going on.

The swap will take place at Braunton Parish Hall on Chaloners Road from 9am to 1pm on Sat 6th June. On-the-day registration is £10.

We'll have a Repair Cafe for on-the-spot alterations and a bake sale for on-the-spot snacking.
Proceeds go to Earth Action North Devon and North Devon Hospice, two local charities supporting our goal of reducing fashion waste.

Little Dart Festival, Science & Nature River Ramble
River Ramble along the Huntacott Water near Chulmleigh
A guided walk along Huntacott Water through private land with expert input on river ecology and flood resilience. Appreciate your rivers.
An event for all interested in rivers and what we can do improve their condition. We will look at some work done on this small river, learn more widely about river ecology and how water and river quality are assessed. The walk follows public footpaths and private paths along Huntacott Water. Starting at West Week we will walk 4 miles with planned stops along the way, the walk finishes at Park Mill, ½ mile from Chulmleigh.
Your guides will be landowner: Mike Moser, Daniel Skeats of Westcountry Rivers Trust and North Devon UNESCO Biosphere staff.
1:30pm: Meet at West Week Farm
2:00pm: Set off on the walk
2-4:30pm: Walk with stops by the river
5:00pm: Walk ends at Park Mill Farm
No dogs please.
Thanks to all the landowners who have allowed this walk to go ahead. The ground will be uneven and possibly muddy. Bring your own refreshments. Toilet facilities available at the start. Transport back to the start via shared lifts with cars left in Chulmleigh, or retrace your steps. Further details on sign-up.
