We feed our data into national campaigns as much as possible (Surfers Against Sewage Million Mile clean and the Marine Conservation Society).

Day of Action
Be part of North Devon's annual Day of Action on Saturday 30th January 2027. One day where we show what community action actually looks like. One day where every tiny piece of rubbish counted becomes evidence that informs data, campaigning and policy.
Turn up on the 30 Jan, at one of our organised community cleans, or do your own clean (please see below*) and let us know, and you could win a Dryrobe® or a Hydro Flask*!
Organised cleans will be announced nearer the day. Watch this space.
For organisations, businesses and schools:
Groups/community clubs: organise a clean in your local community on 30 Jan, we’ll supply gear & guidance.
Schools & businesses: run your clean during the week leading up (Mon 25–Fri 29 Jan) so your community can still take part within your working hours.

🪩 SILENT DISCO: North Devon Silent Disco will be on hand providing the tunes so you can groove whilst removing the rubbish!
🧤 EQUIPMENT PROVIDED: Gloves, litter pickers and bags. However, if you have your own, please bring it with you.

Big Saunton Beach Clean
Get some fresh air, feel good and do good! Come down and care for a part of our local National Landscape, UNESCO Biosphere and World Surf Reserve, anytime between 11am and 1pm.
✨ JANUARY 18th SPECIAL: Free workshop with Ecotribo's mini extruder! Discover how they find out what type of plastic each piece of waste is. Then turn beach plastics into recycled carabiners, giving discarded materials a second life. There will also be some giveaways for biggest batch found and weirdest!
🥤 FREE HOT DRINKS: these will be provided by Saunton Break Cafe (thank you!) down on the beach (rather than at the cafe). Please remember to bring your reusable cup if you have one!
🅿️ FREE PARKING: for all volunteers, pop in the shop when it’s time to leave and let them know you have been volunteering with us.

🦀 CITIZEN SCIENCE & LEARN ABOUT THE BEACH ENVIRONMENT: Coastwise volunteers will be on hand to help us deepen our understanding of the beach environment and support citizen science efforts relating to wildlife and beach cleans. We feed our data into national campaigns as much as possible (Surfers Against Sewage Million Mile clean and the Marine Conservation Society).

Day Of Action - Mass Community Clean
Join in with our Day of Action Mass Community Clean to get some fresh air and give back to the environment.
Wherever you are in North Devon and Torridge, we are encouraging everyone to add 27th January 2025 to the calendar to join in our annual Day of Action. Each year we galvanises the community, whether that be community groups, individuals, schools or businesses to head outside for a community clean to help tackle the global issue of plastic pollution on a local level.
Let’s make the 2025 Day of Action the biggest yet!

Plastic Free North Devon is teaming up with Devon Christie Estates and local partners to carry out a regular beach clean at Instow as part of their Cleanse and Clean Community Clean series.

NB: You will need to collect a car parking slip from the organisers to receive free parking on the day.

What is Cleanse and Clean?
Cleanse and Clean is the overarching concept behind Plastic Free North Devon's community clean series encouraging people to get outside to enjoy what nature has to offer and then give back by doing a clean.
We know that being outdoors can hugely benefit our mental health by relieving stress and improving our happiness, and this campaign is about encouraging people to do just that whilst giving back to the environment at the same time.
